Rowing Association Reshuffled, with Gaire as President and Shrestha as General Secretary

Pokhara Sports/The Rowing Association of Nepal has reshuffled. The association has reshuffled with some new faces in the working committee.

Thakur Prasad Gaire remains the president of the reconstituted Rowing Association. The meeting has selected Sampanna Shrestha as the general secretary of the association. He is also a board member of the National Sports Council (NSC) and is associated with Muaythai martial art sports. Five vice-chairmen have been appointed to the 18-member working committee.

Chandra Bahadur Shahi, Om Thapaliya, Bishnu Hari Pandey, Parashuram Basnet, and Bhagirath Sapkota are the vice presidents of the association. Similarly, Radhika Khatiwada is the secretary, and Krishna Maya Karki is the treasurer.

Similarly, Vishwambhar Ghimire, Rupa Maharjan, Sarita Neupane, Rameshwar Khatiwada (Romas), Hom Budhathoki, Sabin Singh, Chandramani Gaire, Rachna Lama, and Somraj Paneru are the members of the reconstituted working committee.

According to the Rowing Association, the meeting was arranged under the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President and Member of the House of Representatives Jeevan Ram Shrestha and along with the participation of NSC board member Subhash Shrestha.

The newly appointed General Secretary Shrestha told Pokhara Sports that the Nepal Rowing Association will now move ahead with its programs for the development and expansion of rowing sport in Nepal. “It is a charming sport, especially Pokhara could be a center for rowing,” he said. “Pokhara’s Phewa, Begnas, and Rupa Lake could be a training along with a sports venue.” Stating that there is a lot of potentiality for the development of rowing in Nepal, General Secretary Shrestha said-“Nepali youths will be provided foreign training with the support of International Rowing Association (FISA) and the Asian Rowing Federation.”

He said that organizing national and international competitions with Pokhara at the center could have a significant impact on the promotion of tourism through sports. He said that a training center could be set up at Rara Lake after Phewa and Begnas. “We are thinking of setting up training centers at Rara Lake, which will increase the attraction of foreign players,” he said.
