Pokhara / ITF World Tennis Tour: Saloni & Lorant Win The Title

Pokhara Sports / Saloni Tamang of Nepal and Lorant Gyori of Hungary have won the girls ‘singles title and the boys’ title in the ITF Tennis U18 Tennis Tour J-5 Circuit-2 held at Pokhara Stadium Tennis Complex.

In the two-week-long competition, the winner of the circuit-1 title, Saloni defeated Sharvani Shrestha of Nepal by 2-1 in the final. Saloni won the first set by 6-4, but Sharvani turned the match by 6-4  in the second set. However, in the third decisive set, Saloni came back by  6-1 to grab the title.

In the boys’ singles title, Hungary’s Lorant defeated Sweden’s Emilio Zielkowski in straight sets and grabbed the winner title. Lorant won the game by 6–3, 7–5, limiting Emilio to the runner-up spot.

The game of Boys’ Doubles has been won by the duo of Indian Daksha Prasad and Kabir Chhabriya. The pair defeated Meethre Barrot and Siddartha Lama of the United States 7-6 (5), 1-6, 12-10 in a Super Tie match. Similarly, Indian duo Niyati Kukreti and Hana Nagpal have won the title of Girls Doubles.

Honor to tennis veteran Lama
In the closing ceremony, Kaski District Tennis Association honored 94-year-old Hem Bahadur Lama for his significant contribution to the development of tennis in Nepal. Respected personality Hem Lama also emerged as a national player in Nepal with the development of tennis clay court. He had built five clay courts in Kathmandu with his own investment. His sons Raj Lama, Sujay Lama, Captain Vijay Lama were once established as national tennis players. Apart from tennis, he is equally involved in writing music as well as in fine arts and is also a producer of “Adarsh ​​Nari” Nepali movie. He was honored by Tej Bahadur Gurung, Member Secretary of Province Sports Council Gandaki, and Jyoti Rana, President of Nepal Tennis Association.

The winning players of ITF Tennis U18 Tennis Tour J-5 Circuit-2 were handed over medals and certificates by Tej Bahadur Gurung, Member Secretary of Province Sports Council Gandaki, Jyoti Rana, President of Nepal Tennis Association, Binod Kayastha, Vice President, Toran Bahadur Baniya, President of District Sports Development Committee, Deepak Bahadur Godar, President of Pokhara Metropolitan Sports., Lok Bahadur Gurun, President of Kaski District Tennis, IPP Dorje Lama, Secretary Navin Shrestha, and others.
