NOC Celebrates ‘Olympic Day’

Keshav Pathak/ Pokhara Sports. Olympic Day 2021 has started in different parts of the country including Kathmandu from today under the aegis of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) and its sister organization Sports for All Commission (SAC).

Accordingly, the celebration of Olympic Day has been started by adopting full security of Covid 19 during the inaugural program organized at the Olympic headquarters at Satdobato Lalitpur. Minister for Youth and Sports of the Government of Nepal Ekbal Miya inaugurated the Olympic Day 2021 by hoisting the National flag. On the occasion, Minister Miya said that a collective effort was needed for the development of Nepali sports and said that he is ready to assist in the development of Nepali sports in all possible ways.

On the occasion, NOC President Jiban Ram Shrestha said that the organization of ‘Olympic Day’ would increase brotherhood and peace in Nepali sports and society as a whole. NOC President Shrestha also hoisted the flag of the International Olympic Committee. On the same program, a friendly table tennis match was also played between Sports Minister Miya and President Shrestha.

President of Sports for All Commission Nepal, Bishnu Gopal Shrestha highlighted the importance of ‘Olympic Day’. A Singing program was also performed in the inaugural program.

Former NOC President Dhruva Bahadur Pradhan, NOC Vice President and Executive Director Chaturanandaraj Vaidya, Vice President Ashok Ratna Bajracharya, Vice President Jyoti Rana, NOC General Secretary Nilendra Raj Shrestha, NOC Secretary Tulsha Thapa & Deepak Harsh Bajracharya, NOC members Ram Awale, Tasi Ghale & Gopal Sundar Kakshapati, former NOC member and former Additional Inspector General of Police Ramesh Kumar Shrestha, Olympians Deepak Bista, Pravin Tuladhar, Kamal Adhikari, Sneha Rajya Laxmi Shah, and Devu Thapa were present on the inaugural program.

Nepal has been celebrating Olympic Day every year since 2011. This year, 231 programs are being organized by NOC and various organizations under it.
