Archery Association Celebrates International Olympic Day 2021 in Pokhara (Photo Feature)

Keshav Pathak /Pokhara Sports.  Nepal Archery Association organized a program, in support of the Nepal Olympic Committee Sports for All Commission Gandaki and in collaboration with the Provincial Sports Council Gandaki, in Pokhara on Saturday to mark the International Olympic Day 2021.

The event was held at Pokhara Stadium Archery Sports Ground with the participation of athletes in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics. International Olympic Day 2021 has been celebrated in the presence of a limited number of individuals and athletes after about two months in the sport, which was almost halted after the second wave of Covid 19 in Nepal.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar Gurung, board member of the National Sports Council, stressed the need to develop a strong relationship between the council (NSC) and the Nepal Olympic Committee. He said, “Now is the time for all of us to get involved in the preparations for the Ninth National Games.” He added that the morale of the players would remain high if they move forward as a team in sports development.

On the occasion, Tej Bahadur Gurung, Gandaki Member Secretary of the Provincial Sports Council and Vice President of Nepal Olympic Committee recalled that today was an important day for the development of modern sports and said that the Olympic campaign was indispensable for the establishment of peace in the world. Stating that sports can also be a measure of the development of any nation and society, he said, “Its significance will only increase if the Olympic campaign can be carried from house to house and made a matter of interest to all.” He also urged all to move forward unitedly in the Olympic campaign for the development of sports.

Khadga Bahadur Ranabhat, coordinator of Sports for All Commission Gandaki and a senior athlete said that the Olympic campaign was indispensable for the identity of the nation. He expressed confidence that sports would gain momentum if all the organs of sports including players, coaches, and sportspersons move forward unitedly.

Central Vice President of the Nepal Archery Association Basanta Thakali presided over the function and the program was conducted by Central Committee Secretary Yogendra Serchan. 

 Medalists of the 13th SAG, 8th National Games, and athletes for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 performed the demonstration archery game to celebrate International Olympic Day 2021.
