Pokhara ITF J30 Tennis Tour: Russia’s Alexey and Japan’s Asakura Wins

Pokhara Sports/Keshav Pathak / ALEXEY SHIBAEV (RUS) won the men’s singles category in the ITF J-30 tennis tournament organized by the Kaski District Tennis Association in Pokhara.

He won the singles title by defeating India’s Praneel Sharma 6-1, 7-5 in the final match held at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday. The Boys Singles final showcased a thrilling battle, with Alexey securing victory against Praneel. Despite Praneel’s lead at 5-4 in the second set, Alexey held his serve, broke in the following game to lead 6-5, and then secured the title by holding his serve again.

Similarly, Uta Asakura of Japan won the title in women’s singles. In the final match, she defeated India’s Yasika Sokin 1-6, 6-4, and 6-0 to claim the title. Girls Singles final, Asakura emerged victory after a remarkable comeback from a 1-6 deficit. She won the subsequent sets 6-4 and 6-0 in a thrilling match that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes.

On the men’s doubles side, Japan’s Ko Fujikawa and Roya Sasamoto defeated India’s Pravir Mukesh and Amrit Mond by 1-6, 6-4, and 10-5 in the super tie match to win first place. They triumphed over Pravir and Amit in a closely contested match that concluded with a thrilling tie-breaker match. India’s pair of Disa Behra and Arjan Khorakiwala defeated India’s Angel Patel and Yasika Sokin 6-2, 6-1 to win the women’s doubles.

Winners were awarded medals and certificates by Prakash Baral, Member of the Provincial Assembly of Gandaki; Devendra Sherchan, President of the Nepal Democratic Sports Association; Navin Pokharel, Acting Office chief of the Nepal Tourism Board, Gandaki; Binod Kayastha, Vice President of the Nepal Tennis Association; and others.

Kaski Tennis Association President Lok Gurung presided over the prize distribution ceremony, where General Secretary Navin Shrestha made his remarks. 

The second circuit of the tournament will kick off this Monday, as informed by Ajay Bista, director of the tournament. The tournament showcased exceptional talent, fierce competition, and sportsmanship, contributing to the vibrant tennis culture in the region.
