Saloni Secures Two Titles of Pokhara Machhapuchhre Open Tennis

Keshav Pathak/ Pokhara Sports/ Nepal’s top seed Saloni Tamang has won two titles in the 18th Machhapuchhre Bank Pokhara Open and Veterans Tennis Tournament organized by Kaski District Tennis Association at Pokhara Stadium. She won two titles in women’s singles and doubles.

Women’s singles played here on Thursday, Saloni secure the title comfortably with straight sets 6-2, 6-0 against Ganga Sharma. Similarly, Saloni and Mahinka Rana defeated Subhangi Laxmi Shah and Abhilasha Bista 6-1, 6-3 in the women’s doubles.

Aki Juben Rawat and Aarv Samrat Hada win the title of men’s doubles. In the final, the pair Arav & Aki defeated Pranav Khanal and Jitendra Pariyar 7-6, 6-1 to win the title.

Kamal Bhandari and Yagya Bhandari bagged first place in the doubles over 35 years age category. The match played with Raju Chhetri and Sudarshan Bista, the Bhandari duo won the match by 6-4, 7-6.

Likewise, in the age category of 55+ Singles, Bimal Gurung clinched the title by defeating Krishna Raj Ghale 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets.

Nepal’s veteran champions Kamal Thapa and Jyampa Dhundup won the doubles event in the 55-year-category. In a very competitive match, the Thapa duo defeated Krishna Ghale and Raju Shrestha by 2-6, 6-2, 11-9. In the 65+ age category singles final, Bidur Bista defeated Bishnu Gurung 4-0, 4-1 in straight sets to be in the first place.

Pradip Khadka and Arav Samrat Hada will compete for the title of Men’s Open. In the semi-final match played on Friday, Pradip defeated Aki Juben Rawat by 7-5, 6-2, and Arav defeated Pranab Khanal by 6-2, 6-4 settling themselves to be in the final. Santosh Khatri and Bhishma Gurung will compete for the title in the singles over 35 years. Santosh defeated Dawa Sherpa by 6-1, 6-1, and Bhishma defeated Niraj Thapa 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 in a thrilling match.

In the age category of 45+ singles, the final match will be played between Bimal Gurung and Chandra Shahi. Bimal defeated Binod Kayastha by 6-0, 6-2 and Chandra defeated Uttam Lama 6-1-6-1. Binod Kayastha and Bikash Gurung will compete for the doubles title with Himal Shah and Raju Chhetri in the same age category.
