Speaking after the signing, Mayor Dhanraj Acharya emphasized that the agreement marks a milestone in the internationalization, technology transfer, and skill development of Pokhara’s sports sector. He stated, “This agreement is significant for both Pokhara Metropolitan City and the District Sports Committee. Our collaboration with the Korean side has opened doors for Pokhara’s athletes to gain international-level experience.”
He further added that this agreement, although signed with two entities, holds equal value and contributes to establishing Pokhara—and the wider Kaski district—as an emerging sports city. He also shared that initiatives have begun to foster friendship between Cheongyang County and Pokhara.
Han Gwang Syeok, President of the Cheongyang County Sports Committee, expressed that the agreement will go beyond just being a paper document and will be implemented in practice with continuous improvements. “We are pleased to have signed this agreement with Pokhara Metropolitan and the District Sports Committee. This is not just an agreement, we will begin from small actions and gradually enhance it.”
Other speakers at the event included Mukti Ram Aryal, Executive Officer of Pokhara Metropolitan, veteran athlete and tourism entrepreneur Ganesh Bahadur Bhattarai, Ward No. 15 Chairperson Toran Bahadur Baniya, and Milan Gurung, Chairman of the District Sports Development Committee Kaski. They expressed optimism that this agreement would further deepen the longstanding diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Nepal.
This collaboration is expected to help establish Pokhara as an international sports hub. The agreement with the Korean county is considered historic, especially given Cheongyang County’s significant role in the development and promotion of seven major sports disciplines.
