“Tokyo Olympic 2020” to have the title unchanged despite the postponement

Pokhara, In regard to the participation, organization and other burning issues of the Tokyo Olympic 2020 due to COVID -19 pandemic , today IOC President Mr. Thomas Bach & IOC team had meeting with NOCs Presidents, Continental Presidents & Organizing Committee  through Video Conference. 

 

The main agenda of the conference is to discuss the constantly changing environment with regard to the COVID -19 and postponement of Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.


During the video conference with President of NOC Nepal Hon’ble Jeevan Ram Shrestha & other participants, the IOC President & IOC Team decided to postpone the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 until next year. This action has been taken after the consultation with Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Abe Shinzo and World Health Organization (WHO).


The postponement of the Olympic Games 2020 is the first time in the Olympic history.

 

The new dates of the Tokyo Olympic Games will be decided after consulting with IOC, NOCs, IFs, IPC and the organizing committee. Although due to Covid-19, the Olympics have been postponed to 2021, the title will be unchanged. The meeting has decided since the Olympic Flame has already reached Tokyo, it will remain there till the Olympic Games in the name of “Tokyo Olympic Games 2020”.

The decision made by EB of IOC to postpone the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 until next year  has been welcomed and supported by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), NOCs, and the leaders of G-20.

In regard to the Tokyo Olympic athlete Scholarship, the meeting has decided to continue it till the year 2021. As per the new date of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the remaining Olympic Qualification Championships and the deadline to submit the application for the accreditation will be rescheduled. The next video Conference with NOCs will be held in April this year.
